The Reality

Children who should be
in school are in the fields

In Kasanja "A" Village, poverty forces families into impossible choices. Young single mothers take their children to farm the land just to survive โ€” robbing those children of their education, their future, and their childhood.

This is the reality KCH was founded to change. Every child enrolled at Kasanja Nursery & Primary School is one less child in the fields. Every donation is a day of school instead of a day of labour.

"A young single mother struggles to care for her children. She goes with them to work in the fields instead of her kids being in school."

Why KCH Exists

Children working instead of learning

In Kasanja Village, poverty is not abstract โ€” it is a mother and her children in the fields at dawn, machetes in hand, surviving one day at a time. KCH was founded to break this cycle by giving every child access to education, nutrition and safety.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about sponsoring a child, donating, volunteering, and visiting Kasanja Children's Home.

The cost of sponsorship or support varies depending on the specific needs of the child, family, or project. Support may range from monthly contributions to annual donations. The amount required typically depends on factors such as school fees and educational materials, medical and healthcare needs, food and nutrition support, housing or shelter requirements, community development activities, and emergency or special needs support. Even small contributions can make a meaningful difference when combined with support from other donors.

Sponsorship donations are used to provide essential services such as education, healthcare, nutrition, and community support. In practice, donations may be used for paying school fees and purchasing school supplies, providing medical care and health services, supporting food and nutrition programs, improving living conditions and safety, and delivering emergency assistance. KCH ensures that all funds are allocated responsibly and monitored through reporting and accountability systems.

Yes. Donors may select a child or beneficiary based on specific criteria such as age, gender, or location. In some cases, support may be assigned based on the most urgent need. Donors can choose a specific child or family, select a community project, support a particular cause, or respond to urgent needs. This flexibility allows donors to align their support with their personal values and priorities.

Yes. Communication between sponsors and beneficiaries may occur through letters, emails, phone calls, online meetings, or visits. This communication helps build a meaningful relationship. Communication may include letters or messages, updates from families or project teams, photos or progress reports, and scheduled communication through the platform. All communication is managed carefully to protect the privacy and safety of children and vulnerable individuals.

Sponsorship often continues for an extended period, sometimes until the child reaches adulthood or becomes self-sufficient. The duration of support depends on the type of assistance provided, the needs of the child or family, the availability of funding, and the progress of the beneficiary. Short-term examples include emergency assistance and medical treatment. Long-term examples include education sponsorship and community development programs. KCH regularly reviews support arrangements to ensure they remain appropriate and effective.

Sponsors may have opportunities to visit the individuals or communities they support, either through organized visits or individual arrangements. Visits are subject to safety and safeguarding requirements, scheduling and coordination, and local regulations and community guidelines.

Updates may include progress reports, educational achievements, health and well-being information, financial summaries, photos or videos, and program updates.

Yes. Sponsors may send letters, gifts, or care packages to support the child emotionally and practically. Examples of acceptable gifts may include school supplies, clothing, books, educational materials, and personal care items. All gifts are reviewed to ensure they are safe, appropriate, and culturally respectful.

Donations to registered charitable organizations may be tax-deductible in many countries. Eligibility depends on national tax laws and the donor's country of residence. KCH is a registered Community Based Organisation in Uganda and can provide receipt documentation for your contributions.

Sponsorship often benefits not only the child but also their family and community. Support may contribute to improved household stability, better access to education and healthcare, increased income opportunities for families, community development projects, and stronger social support systems.

Yes. Individuals can support children and communities through volunteering, advocacy and awareness campaigns, fundraising initiatives, mentorship and guidance, and professional services. Every form of support helps us achieve our mission.

Donors who wish to cancel support can contact the organization to discuss available options. Possible options may include ending support, transferring support to another beneficiary, adjusting the level of support, or scheduling a transition period. We want to ensure a smooth process for both the sponsor and the child.

Yes. Sponsors are expected to follow guidelines such as respecting the child's privacy and maintaining appropriate communication. Responsibilities may include respecting safeguarding rules, communicating respectfully, protecting personal information, following program policies, and supporting the well-being of beneficiaries.

Yes. Donors may choose to support programs in specific locations that match their interests or priorities. Examples include education programs in rural communities, health initiatives in underserved regions, and emergency response projects. Please contact us to discuss your preferences.

Eligible beneficiaries are identified through community outreach, referrals, and assessments. Selection criteria may include economic vulnerability, health conditions, access to education, family circumstances, living conditions, and community needs. Each case is carefully evaluated to ensure support reaches those who need it most.

Yes. Many sponsorship programs allow donors to support multiple beneficiaries simultaneously. Supporting multiple initiatives allows donors to increase their impact, support more families, address different needs, and strengthen entire communities.

Transparency is ensured through reporting, audits, and communication with sponsors. KCH maintains accountability through financial recordkeeping, monitoring systems, independent audits, regular reporting, and oversight procedures. Donors may request updates or reports to understand how their support is being used.

Donors may choose to support targeted initiatives such as infrastructure development, health programs, education programs, and community services.

Impact is measured through monitoring indicators and evaluations. Impact indicators may include school attendance, health outcomes, income improvements, community participation, and living condition improvements.

Needs assessments consider multiple factors to determine the level of support required. These factors may include household income, food security, health status, housing conditions, access to services, and family size.
